Company Culture Online vs. Offline – June
June 1, 2015
You work hard to build your company culture, but does the world know how great it is? These days an enviable company culture can be a huge attraction for top talent, but if the only people who know it work there, you are not properly leveraging this facet of your business. Your online company persona should reflect your culture as much as your team does.
So, how do you promote the good things your company is doing?
- Blog about it. Don’t underestimate the value of blogging. You can give various employees a chance to write the blog each week, which gives them a sense of ownership, pride and also is a way of recognizing them as someone you’d like to represent the company. Of course, you will dictate the general content and make sure it’s edited and professional, but providing an insider’s view into the company and its goings on will provide great insight into what makes your business unique. Topics can range from something as small as a team lunch or as big as a company anniversary.
- Share it on social media. If you have an office manager, assistant or in-house social media specialist who is willing to take this on, do it! This will give you a great platform to share your weekly company blogs and a great place to house fun pictures of your team. Whether it’s an all-hands meeting or a picture from your holiday party, social media lends personality to your group of professionals.
- Create a company newsletter. A company email newsletter can be sent quarterly, so it doesn’t take up too much of your staff’s time, but it should be something that you can share internally and externally. Create a good mix of culturally inspiring pieces, such as bios on new hires and fun pictures, as well as information on new clients or upcoming projects.
- Stay true to your values. Does everyone who works at your company know the business’ values? They should! If you have a vision and/or mission statement, they should know that, too. Find a place (maybe the break room or conference room?) where you can post these guiding pillars or create a handout and give one to each employee. You want to create brand evangelists for your company, and the best place to start is your staff.
