Job Seekers: Take Note of Your Accomplishments in 2014

Documenting the skills you’ve acquired or things you’ve accomplished can improve your resume, not to mention boost your ego. From defining what qualifies as an accomplishment to how to communicate your skills, here’s what you need to know to put your best foot forward in 2015:

  • What qualifies as an accomplishment? An accomplishment is an example of how you contributed to your company through your position. Ideally, accomplishments should be measurable. These can include promotions, awards, special projects, committees and challenges you overcame.
  • What types of skills should I add to my resume? Certifications indicate that you are keeping your skills current. Add this to your resume, along with any details, including expiration date, skills covered, etc. If you have skills that you acquired and are not certified for, be sure to add concrete examples that illustrate your knowledge.
  • How do you best communicate this to potential employers? Streamlined, numbers-oriented information hits home the fastest. List your skill or accomplishment, and accompany it with at least one tangible example. Visuals keep the eye engaged, so images and videos are great to include or attach.
  • Besides my resume, what else can I update? In addition to your resume, we recommend that you update your LinkedIn profile as well as any personal website or online resume you might have.

Be sure to update your resume with your accomplishments from 2014 before you job search in the New Year.
