Job Seekers: Is Now a Good Time to Search? – January

New year, new career? You’ve heard it from lots of people, “Wait until the New Year to search for a new job.” With company parties, bonuses and the overall craziness of the holiday season, it’s understandable why most people prefer to wait until January to job hunt, but is this the best time to be looking for a new career? Yes and no. Here are the pros and cons to revamping your resume in early 2015:

Pros:

• Budgets restart in January, so there may be more funds allocated to staffing.
• New initiatives begin with the new year, bringing new projects and employment needs with them.

Cons:

• It takes a while for the buzz of returning to work after the holidays to die down. Some hiring managers may be slow to respond…at least until February.
• Everyone else may have the same idea. This is why it’s critical to break through the clutter of resumes by doing something different. By working with a staffing agency, you are able to go directly to the employer without the waiting game.

NOTE: Be sure to tie up any major projects you are working on at your current job and take that vacation you’ve been thinking about before you launch into a serious job search. That way, you won’t be torn if you find the perfect career, but still have one foot in the door at your current position.
